At the BET awards, Amazon premiered the trailer for rapper, Meek Mill’s docuseries that’s coming out later this summer. Meek announced last year, that he was working on a docuseries on his legal fight. The teaser trailer was released earlier this year, and now the trailer has been released.
Executive produced by Jay-Z, the docuseries is going to be five episodes which follows the rapper’s legal journey. It also plans to bring to attention faults in the justice system. The series will release new information discovered by private investigation firm, Quest Research and Investigations. They’ve worked with many major networks and organizations such as NBC’s Dateline, the Rolling Stones, and the New York Times. Prior to the series, 76er’s co-owner Michael Rubin hired the company to look in to Mill’s case.
Criminal Justice Reform
Meek addressed a crowd at the beginning of the trailer. “Let it be known that Meek Mill has dedicated himself to justice reform and making sure the people that don’t belong in prison is not in prison”. Meek told the crowd. In an interview, he says that the series will give viewers a new look at his life. He says his platform lets him to speak about the need for criminal justice reform.
A Hopeful Future
Another executive producer of the series is Eli Holzman. In a interview, he spoke on the privilege he had to make a “definitive documentary” on Meek’s story. He told them that they will additionally focus on corruptness of the justice system.
Desire for Justice
The State of Pennsylvania sentenced Meek two to four years in prison in 2017. The sentence was for violating his probation. The probation from a case in 2008 involving drug and weapons charges. Subsequently, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court dropped the sentence in April 2018. They released Meek shortly after.
